Fly Field Guides

Our original fly fishing pocket guide.

The Field Guide

The Field Guide is a at its core a map and the basic information needed for a successful day of fishing. It's a pocket-sized primer geared toward folks who wade. Inside our trademark brown cover, the standard format is 24 pages. Every Field Guide features map pages, a local hatch chart and corresponding patterns, fish identification, and an overview of our variation of a fly pattern in addition to introductory material specific to the fishery. When possible, we feature a traditional or local fly pattern or region or even the stream in a variation that is platform-oriented and reproduceable by the novice and expert alike.

The Field Guides also all include local public safety contact information and a few note-taking pages. Some field guides feature information specific to the stream such as section restrictions and how to identify access points and specific regulations. Ocassionally, space permits the inclusion of additional information our guides have identified as valuable for an angler's development.

Customization and Exclusivity

The Field Guide booklets are often branded with the retail partner's one-color logo. This is not just because it is a valuable marketing device. At-the-counter availability of a Field Guide is generally exclusive to a single retail partner and the local branding is good for both of us.

We also work with our retail partners to create display solutions that allow prominent display of this unique and branded item without too much impingment of existing sales area. The retail packaging is based on the type of display. For example, Fly Fishing the Smokies in Bryson City, N.C., uses a simple, rustic-ish 4x4 display that required a punchable packaging. In this situation, we use a resealable, channel-style envelope because it remains usable for the life of the booklet, and extends the life of the booklet. This both adds value and meets our sustainability requirements.

Every retail environment has its own needs so we approach each solution differently.
